About the art
Artist statement
Sarsen plinth is a sculptural form with practical intent. This solid wood form can be used as a side table, plant stand or even a low stool. Developed as an extension of the artists exploration into the shou sugi ban, the object is made from 16 individually flamed and finished wooden blocks that form a single solid piece. The wooden blocks are joined through concealed connection points so the Sarcen plinth can be easily moved around and used as functional furniture. Through the reductive burning process of shou sugi ban, the natural wood textures are exposed and celebrated. "Sarsen" is a reference to the monolithic Saracen stones that form Stonehenge, standing immortal though the weathering of time.
Sarsen plinth can be supplied with a glass top in a smoked bronze-grey tempered glass (the glass top option is custom order from the artist)
