Hand carved on thrown porcelain, glazed in celadon with a subtle green tint. Overlapping II is part of the series of carvings Desire for Relationships and Communications. It began with a fascination of what the hand represents in its manifold, signifier of labour or signs of communication. It becomes potent for Gerald as a maker having a hands-on relationship with clay. He often sees these hand motifs as self portraits to a degree, expressions of his very own drawn from habits and things important to him.
