About the art
Artist statement
Oculus was made at the height of COVID in Jakarta. Hana was trying to hide the grief of her father’s passing, and the fear of whether she could sustain her artisans’ livelihoods. She tried to distract herself by focusing on something positive, an image of a tree. But three months into the work, Hana looked at this tapestry from a distance, and felt the heaviness of its dark eye. Her late father was in the timbre industry. It helped her talk about him with a few strangers who asked about it at exhibitions.
Handcrafted by Threadapeutic Artisans
Made of 3.05 kg of fabric waste from local garment factories and ateliers - fabric offcuts and deadstock in browns, blacks, beige, whites, oranges
Comes with a seamless loop to insert a hanging pole
