Artist statement
Defocus is an artisanal furniture collection that embraces flat packing as the way today's society conceives of furniture. Designed in response to the issue of furniture waste, the Defocus pieces are lightweight and easy to assemble and disassemble without any tools, becoming ideal for modern nomads. The user finishes the artisan's work by assembling the furniture with joints that resemble ancient carpentry clamps and also serve as conversational triggers about the woodworking craft. This project reconciles traditional craftsmanship with efficient manufacturing, resulting in long-lasting and unique pieces that optimise time and material resources.
