Artist statement
The Storm Series is by its concept the purest example of a process-design, where the designer seeks to set creative parameters to allow an object to shape itself, without any further direct involvement. The aim of this project is to create forms through storm winds. Johannes Hemann creates storm boxes, in which he releases storms from high pressure air . The storm is the base of the project: 'the silence before the storm'. The material lies on the bottom of the box – 'standstill' – the air comes in, the storm begins and the energy is transferred from the wind to the material. 'The wind stops' - the form has been shaped and the silence after the storm sets in. The storm energy is then visible in the shape. Each piece is unique, as each generated storm finds different expressions.
