Four shapes flow to the center to swirl, weave, and grip each other. Firmly holding on to form
“GRIP”
A sculptural, powerful , iconic object made out of solid bamboo using modern materials and techniques.
The idea was to create an a-typical construction and make that the center of attention.
Also inspired by traditional decorating woodcarvings.
Gentle Brutalism.
The monolithic shape looks beautiful and interesting from every viewing-angle
The bamboo base is cut out of high pressed caramelized bamboo before it is further sculpted and shaped by hand.
The bamboo surface is sanded smooth to reveal the materials beautiful grains, subtle color-tones ,lines and details.
A natural oil-finish enhances and brings depth and warmth to the caramel color and structure.
The clear tempered glass top makes the bamboo base visible.
Bamboo:
A strong, highly sustainable ,flexible, beautiful and renewable material. Bamboo grows without the help of fertilizers. The bamboo tree is mature enough to be cut after three years. The trees are processed into the most environmentally sustainable wood on Earth.
