About the art
Artist statement
The Ernest barware Collection; named after renowned explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton and the 2010 discovery of his abandoned camp (1907) in Antarctica.
This collection was inspired by the discovery of Shackleton’s camp along with a 100 year old crate containing 11 bottles of Mackinlay's Scotch whiskey. Bottles buried in Antarctica's minus 22 Fahrenheit (-30 Celsius) temperature and the desire to have the perfect glass compliment those bottles.
Ernest glassware was designed with a weathered look as if the glass too had been buried in Antarctica for 100 years and weathered over time. Each piece is well-textured on along the body and contrasted at the bottom with a hand-polished fluid-like edge.
These glasses are perfectly counter-weighted with a heavy base. The subtle qualities of the design are simple yet strong, and earnest.
