Artist statement
Mokkou Mori pays homage to Yoshino Wood and the community through his work, by presenting the material in its best form. The workshop aims to model beauty in wood and create flowing shapes that can only be expressed by a kanna (Japanese plane). The softness of Yoshino Cedar and the smooth curved surface of the backrest made by a kanna combine to form a gentle, comfortable seat that you wouldn't think could originate from a tree.
