Artist statement
In an atelier located deep in the mountains with a view of the beautiful sky, MoonRounds produces carefully crafted dishes and furniture with natural materials. I work with a range of Yoshino wood like Cedar and Cypress, and broad-leaved woods including cherry wood, mulberry, camphor, and horse chestnut wood. The shape, temperature, hardness and movement differs with each kind of wood, and sometimes, each piece of timber – my challenge is in identifying the unique trait and value in each piece and carefully forming it accordingly. I create pieces with plant-based dyes, waxes and oils that bring you the simplicity and warmth of nature.
The Crescent Cypress Stool is produced with Yoshino Cypress, and natural dyes made with persimmon and soot. The unique wood grains, patterns and tones differ with each piece.
