About the art
Artist statement
The inspiration for the Jää design came from the beautiful and practical nature of recycled plastic and its environmentally friendly credentials. The Finnish word jää has two meanings; ‘ice’ and ‘please stay’. Therefore a fitting name for a sustainable design - seat, side table or a console. Through the design and use of materials, we wanted to show that recycled furniture can be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Made in Britain with a mixture of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) plastic with small aluminium and steel parts, the Jää is fully recyclable. The PE and PP plastic shapes are 100% recycled post-consumer plastic which is pure waste that has been diverted from landfills.
Jää is a multifunctional and adaptable design suitable for both indoor and outdoor in public and private spaces. Handmade in UK.
