Artist statement
Akin to the corn that requires an artful removal of its leaves so as to reach the cob, Xipe Tótec signifies for ancient Mexicas “that which is lived on the inside, what inhabits the skin”. It’s the spirit of the grains of corn and the regrowth of the camp. Xipe Tótec speaks about Mexican cuisine tradition, through rituals and respect for the spirit of the food.
Xipe Tótec collection was created using 3D-casted moulds blended with decades of craftsmanship experience originating from Oaxaca state in Mexico. All of the pieces are made with a natural "engobe" finish to give them a unique lustrous texture that is both functional and beautiful.
Each piece is made and finished by hand, they are all unique in their small imperfections as part of the artisanal process.
