About the art
Artist statement
Deen (Perfume Marble) is evocative of earth meeting sky. Rich bands of chocolate brown and mint green soar and cascade around the voluptuous lobes of the vessel, while hints of peach and pink suggest luscious fruit on the vine. There is a deft interplay between warm earthy tones and creamy ribbons of semi-transparent porcelain, resulting in a work that is full of contradictions: grounded and ethereal, vigorous and delicate, robust yet fluid.
The form pays tribute to the quatrefoil motif of Gothic and Renaissance architecture with four hourglass volumes that undulate with a slight variation in symmetry. Deen can be read as an echo of itself or as a union of bodies, the soaring lift a celebration of coming together. The vase crests with a generous profile to accommodate a bounty of flowers, and makes a statement all on its own as a standalone sculpture.
