Artist statement
One of the main characteristics of Paulownia wood is the way it can make tightly-fitting connections. We used this characteristic to develop a construction-toy for all ages, where the different shapes and connections can be combined to create endless sculptural shapes. Different stain colours to parts of the panel pieces makes for the possibility of more playful combinations.
The product is a set of 4 panels each stained a different colour and cut into a variety of different shapes with a series of slots. The four panels have different characteristics in the way they are cut - square, triangular, circular and linear. The set also comes in a natural-finish Paulownia wood box packaging (size indicated includes packaging).
The Slot Construction Toy is designed by Takenouchi Webb, and produced by Atsukawa Industry.
