Artist statement
'Equilibrium' Table Sets focuses on the common ground between Taoist philosophy and sustainability, exploring the balance between nature and humans in modern urban life, through the visual language of furniture. Xinyi Chen seeks a harmonious coexistence between lacquer, branches and abstract geometric forms to illustrate the concepts of yin and yang, sustainability and Taoist philosophy.

Xinyi Chen is a culturally fused furniture designer and thinker. She finished her MA Design in Central Saint Martin UAL, and BA design degree at the University of Alberta. The foundation of Xinyi Chen's design practice is within the context of today's culturally integrated world exploring Chinese aesthetics.
