Anna Demidova is a Lisbon-based Russian artist and designer who is oriented internationally in her work. She studied photography, graphic and interior design before moving to Portugal.
Four years ago she opened ceramic world for herself and it has been her passion since then. Anna has been taking ceramic classes during one month in a local studio in her hometown. Since then her ceramic journey has begun.
Clay makes her happy. Ceramics gives her an opportunity to work with a shape in a free environment. Shape is the key. That’s why mostly Anna doesn’t use glaze. She can pass on her knowledge and feelings through a free clay body. She prefers abstract shapes, soft lines, coarse textures and moderate color palette. She works solely with hand-built techniques.
Anna is more interested in sculptural aspects than the functional part. She tries to highlight natural texture of the material. Each piece is intended to be a sculpture object where the border between art, craftsmanship and design disappears. Anna is inspired by human beings and living creatures. Her artworks arouse associations with bionic shapes, knuckles, parts of body and living tissue.
Throughout this time, Anna has already participated in the exhibitions in France, Portugal and Spain.
She works directly with clients, architects and interior designers around the world to create unique artworks and design pieces.

Describe your creative process.
Clay makes her happy. In many cases I am using the clay intuitively. I keep a concept in my mind and then improvise. The clay is such a good material that connects hands and an imagination. I prefer abstract shapes, soft lines, coarse textures and a moderate color palette. I work just with manual techniques and every time it’s a surprise what I will get at the end. It’s the most excited moment. I am not focusing on functionality, but interested in making table lamps and vases.
