Chelsea is an East London based artist and maker, with a background in Fine Art. She has always admired craft and the handmade, making work that explores the relationship between function and form. I have established a practice that combines her making skills with a love of drawing, highlighting an appreciation for the shape, colour and texture of everyday objects and architectural forms. Her handmade marquetry pieces are imagined scenes inspired by research and drawn studies. As her work continues she investigates the possibilities of scale and colour within the traditional technique of marquetry.
The biggest inspiration to me is the whole world around me, things I see on a daily basis walking around East London, the objects in my parents kitchen or something as well as the materials I have lying around in the studio.
Describe your creative process.
I work quite organically with the wood veneers I have. Often the shape and line of the woodgrain inspires an entire piece of work
Who are some artists that have influenced your work?
The painters Giorgio Morandi and Etel Adnan is a constant source of inspiration, however I am also inspired often by the arts and crafts movement and numberous furniture designers too.
