Based in: London

Ifeanyi Oganwu has a minimalist and futuristic vision drawn on a modernist ethos. As an architect, artist and designer of Nigerian origin, he seeks inspiration from diverse sources across the globe. His influences include the performative potential of materials in relation to the body in space, as well as the intersection of art, architecture and design.

Combining his interest for art, culture and technology, Ifeanyi founded London-based Expand Design Ltd and presented a debut collection in 2010 at Milan Design Week. Since then, his works have been widely exhibited internationally, with participations in both historical and contemporary shows at the at the Vitra Design Museum, Guggenheim Bilbao, Swiss Institute NY and the Shenzhen Biennale. In 2016, he was shortlisted for the Hublot Design Prize. In 2019, Ifeanyi was named a rising star by Powerlist UK.

More About Ifeanyi Oganwu

Question IconWhat inspires you?

I am inspired by cinema and other visual depictions of temporality as much as I am by natural phenomena and mathematics. The colour choice for my Blue Milk design is inspired by the climactic scene in Godard’s Pierrot le Fou.

Question IconDescribe your creative process.

My process uses technology to create new relationships between typologies and materials.

Question IconWhat is the most important tool when creating your work?

Freedom to explore, alongside collaborators who are willing to try something new.

Question IconWhere do you go for inspiration?

Inspiration can happen anywhere, and at any time. It's important to keep an open mind with new experiences as they come along.
