Johanna is an artist and designer from Mato Grosso a western region of Brazil, 7 years ago she decided to live in the French Basque Country attracted by the rocks and the relief of the region. Her work is about treat materials as subjects, by respecting all stages of making process and the time of the element. Each object is unique, and all traces of the pieces are treated as magical aspects of the hand made process. For her, unexpected results represents the mystery of matters interactions, transforming and changing all the time. On her creations every detail is essential.
Her inspiration comes from the ordinary beauty of the unnoticed, natural accidents related to the soil, erosion, land compositions, texture, layers and surfaces. Her concept is based on tradition and modernity, materials and memory.
Johanna uses the earth to materialize the invisible and get connected to others. She works with stoneware, porcelain, earthenware, mixtures of enamels, engobes and wild clay, that she collects "in situ". With ancestral and contemporary techniques, she evokes the emotional aspect of the land and territorial bonds, the relation between man and object.
She is available for commissioned work for particulars and galleries, like A Mano Studio based in Biarritz (France). She also participates in events and exhibitions as 1000 Vases, produced by Meet my Project at Joseph Gallery in Paris, where she recently showed her work.
