Kouichi Okamoto is a sound producer and product designer. He has been releasing his sounds on the Dutch techno label “X-Trax” since 1997. He founded Kyouei design in 2006.
In 2006, he held his first solo exhibition called "TWO DAYS & FOUR PRODUCTS" at the Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art. In May of the same year, he exhibited at ICFF in New York as a part of the designboom mart. Since then he has exhibited all over the world including in Sweden, France, USA, China, Australia, Korea, Russia, Taiwan, UK, Israel, Brazil, Singapore and Japan.
In 2010, the water clock was elected to the exhibition of design museum holon (israel) "the state of things" design and the 21st century. He was elected as an artist of the project called "100 artists of contemporary culture NOVA" held in Brazil 2010-2011. "Glass Tank" has been selected to be part of a permanent collection for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, 2011. In 2012, his solo exhibition ‘switch’ was held at POLA MUSEUM ANNEX in Ginza, Tokyo.
In the same year Musical Table and Lighting Chair were exhibited, Okamoto did a live performance at the V&A Museum in London, and he held his solo exhibition ‘form of the function’ at ICN gallery (London). In 2013, his works were exhibited in some exhibitions. “Mark-ing” at Gallery Libby Sellers (London), “time, time of design” at Contemporary Fine Art from China Central Academy of Fine Arts, “Keep it Glassy” at Shanghai Museum of Glass (Shanghai), “around the book” at Museo Ppldi Pezzoli (Milano).
His solo exhibitions as Kyouei Design have been held at SFT Gallery (Tokyo). More recently, the Bookmark Light was selected for "Special Mention"of Excellent Product Design in the internationally prestigious German Design Award.
