Lerae is a Ceramic Artist based in Singapore. A graduate of the sciences but an artist at heart, her path took an unconventional turn to Ceramics after college. She went on to study under the tutelage of a master potter, as such her works are built on a strong foundation in wheel throwing. Her designs draw inspiration from traditional shapes, updated with interesting forms and contemporary finishes. She wishes that her works beautify and enhance the connection between beholders and their living spaces.
I draw inspiration on forms largely from ancient Chinese as well as mid-century modern ceramics. I am also inspired by colours and textures of the natural world, along with works of other artistic disciplines.
What is the most important tool when creating your work?
My hands.
What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
To see my endeavour in ceramics as a journey. It helped shape my perspectives, that I needed to take time to learn and grow, and mastery can only be attained with a great deal of training and patience.
