Mentemano

Hometown: Milan

Based in: Milan

Mentemano is a design concept brand leading to a precise matter: is the “mente” (mind) leading the “mano” (hand) to create a piece of furniture or instead the opposite, having the mind as source of inspiration to conceive the project?

‍All products made by architect Nicola Gisonda are influenced by a unique architectural perception and based on attention to materials, functionality and space.

The focus on details and finishing becomes the essential element during the whole creative process. The products, through their shapes and lines, create a dialogue between themselves and the space all around. Strong character pieces of furniture, far away from the trends of the moment and based on a personal ongoing design research, looking for elegance, sobriety and personality.

The collection is fully made in Italy, working with local artisans from Lombardy region. High quality, Italian craftsmanship and lifetime allure are the key points of Mentemano.

Mentemano In The Studio

The main source of my personal inspiration as a designer is nature. Through that I can completely focused myself on the expressive power of the products I'm going to design, stimulating people to be aware of nature's constant presence in human life as well.

More About Mentemano

Question IconWhat inspires you?

The sustainability approach has deep roots in regard to my whole creative process: it starts from the design of the product through a clear inspiration coming from the nature world, becoming then a tangible project through the use of sustainable materials and nature respectful procedures.

Question IconDescribe your creative process.

The focus on details and finishing becomes the essential element during the whole creative process. The products, through their shapes and lines, create a dialogue between themselves and the space all around. My goal is to create strong character pieces of furniture, away from the trends of the moment and based on a personal ongoing design research, looking for elegance, sobriety and personality.

Question IconWho are some artists that have influenced your work?

I've been always fascinated by Mies van der Rohe, who is obviously not a rising star in the design industry but a real legend instead. His poetics of "Less is more" has been a fundamental inspiration for my creative process. Less cabinet from my collection is a real witness of this personal influence. Speaking about contemporary designers I can mention Sara Ricciardi, a person I work with on the occasion of Cluster Apartamento exhibition in Rome, Italy.
