Budiman was born and raised in a small town, Kisaran, North Sumatra, Indonesia. He
was trained in subject of applied art, attended Three Dimensional Design at gray
school of art, graduating with honours degree from Robert Gordon University, Scotland,
UK.

After Graduating, in Oct 2002, he started working for John Hardy, under the creative
director Guy Bedarida who prior to John Hardy was the head designer of another
house hold brand, Van Cleef and Arpels. John Hardy is a jewelry design and lifestyle
design company based in Bali, Indonesia. In his last year with John Hardy, Budiman
was heading their product/special project department. John Hardy has provided
and strengthened his foundation in regards of knowledge of quality products. Being
part of the core design development team on top of his experience in JH also has
quenched this taste for experiments with all sort of materials from horn to precious gem
and introduced him to variety of processes and projects in various cities in Indonesia
as well as abroad such as China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam
and Paris.
Having working at JH for 6 years, Budiman then set up Ong Cen Kuang in May
2008, focusing on conceptual work on many multidisciplinary projects as well as
launching his collections of lightings.
Ong Cen Kuang is about quality handmade products, The Company has produced a
strong collection of unique lightning and functional furniture. Ong Cen Kuang reflects
Budiman’s design principles that respect process and characters of materials. The
pieces created with his dedicated team of talented craftsmen have strong character,
tactile and distinct.
It is his dream to create pieces that reach beyond the commercial affect of purchase
satisfaction.
Today. as well as project throughout the world, Ong Cen Kuang has representatives in
Asia, Europe and USA
