Riccardo Cenedella is an Italian Maker and Furniture Designer now based in East London and recently graduated from MA Material Futures at Central Saint Martins. He is committed to creating bespoke, handcrafted objects inspired by the stigma of waste excess.
In the era we are living in, the Anthropocene, humans become consumeristic machines on a planetary scale. But what if, in a speculative near-future we cover the Earth in trash? In this scenario, all the professional figures will cross their boundaries and designers become makers and alchemists. For these reasons, his practice is led with a hands-on approach to research the possibilities to transform waste into functional objects.
As a maker with a sustainable ethos, Riccardo sees design as a tool to create awareness about overconsumption and waste production. Narration is an essential component in his design output. The observation of the environment that surrounds him and the waste informally related to it in combination with material exploration and making skills meet into the realization of collectable design artefacts. Process and narrative come first and the form follows.
