Statement
Hello! I'm Kara and I produce my work using digital mixed mediums. Through Lukisan Kabut, I spend time depicting the ‘Kelam-Kabut’ (Chaotic in Malay) nature of womanhood. There is a lot of portraiture of myself and also artworks shedding light on the struggles and victories of womanhood. I use a lot of vivid colors because I paint a different view of situations in my mind.
I hope my work can be relatable to most, and especially bring some color and character to the table.
What are 3 words that best describe your work?
Feminism, Character, Vibrancy
Who are some artists that have influenced your work?
Influences are formulated largely based on interpretation. Nobuyoshi Araki photographs erotica and flowers. Presumptuously, it can be seen as repulsive to optimists who are used to societal conduct. But look closely, and you see beauty in its raw forms, exposed in its entirety, free to convey both the ugly and the beautiful in their presence. In the same way I want to produce work that is not just aesthetically pleasing to the norm, but can relay the depth of a woman’s character.
What is the most important tool when creating your work?
Music, and determination to express my perspective fully
