Yawny In The Studio
My practice examines surrealism as the existentialist aesthetic. Both the surrealists and existentialists sought to create meaning, as an attempt to live authentically - away from the influence of others - in an attempt to confront the meaninglessness and absurdity of life through art. In the end, for me, the artistic freedom itself was the meaning to live for.
What inspires you?
Surrealism, Absurdism, The Universe, and Dreams
Describe your creative process.
Going with the flow with experimenting different looks and compositions, being flexible and not too rigid in the process. I feel like I alternate between minimalism and maximalism very often. My works are evidence of this odd tendency.
Who are some artists that have influenced your work?
Albert Camus, Zdzisław Beksiński, Andy Warhol
What is the most important tool when creating your work?
Patience and Focus - to know if I will be producing something calm or chaotic today.
What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
How big would you dream if you knew you couldn't fail? Dreams are the starting point of my art, but I also hope it inspires people to dream big and live the type of life they write about in great novels.
Where do you go for inspiration?
Somewhere quiet, but sometimes somewhere loud. Never in the middle.
