About the art
Artist statement
Created in 2020, this photograph is part of my "Dandelions" series, born from a time when the world felt confined and still. Walking my dog along the same path each day, I found myself captivated by dandelions—fragile yet resilient, bound to the earth yet destined to drift. I brought them into my home studio to explore their symbolism: a delicate structure on the verge of release, their seeds poised to catch the wind and set off on a journey of their own.
While creating this picture, I filled a glass vessel with countless dandelion seeds, each with the inherent ability to drift into open air yet confined behind glass. This image represents the tension between freedom and containment—how, even in moments when we feel a quiet call toward unbound horizons, unseen barriers can still hold us back. It reflects the experience of lockdown, embodying the quiet yearning for the vastness beyond, even when release felt distant and uncertain.
