About the art
Artist statement
women processing and drying red chillies under sun near Jamuna river.
Bangladesh is affected by flood throughout the monsoon season each year. The char areas have some of the highest levels of poverty in the country. Chili is the main cash crop in the area and mostly women are engaged in its production and processing along with their regular unpaid care work. Women in this area have limited or no access to markets or finance; they have less bargaining power and limited income.
