Angeles M. Pomata

Born: 1972

Hometown: Madrid

Based in: Cabo de Gata

I was born in Cartagena in 1972, although before my first birthday my family moved to Madrid, where I was brought up, and there I was also trained as a clinical psychologist and practiced as such for more than an intense decade. In 2007, I decided to leave the profession and start a career as a writer.

With that idea, I settled in a small coastal town in Andalusia, and since then I have published three books: two novels and a fairy tales book. It was while writing my first book when I started painting, attracted by the natural landscapes that I enjoyed daily in my new home. Little by little, and never like something premeditated, the painting started displacing the writing to get to fill the entirety of my time. What started as a hobby became thus my professional activity.

I do not belong to any specific school, and I didn’t have tutors or teachers: my training is completely self-taught. Everything I know about painting I have learned it through the observation of other painters, of some books and, above all, of constant trial and error.

As a painter, I have dedicated myself above all to the study of color and nature.

Some of my works have been selected to appear in the magazine Women in Art 278, from Florida, in April of 2017, or in the digital art gallery Go For Art, of Basel, among others, and they are part of private collections in Europe, Australia, and the United States.

I currently live and work by the sea in Níjar, within the Cabo de Gata Natural Park.
