Dragana Crnjak is a Serbian-American interdisciplinary artist whose work explores perception through mark making inspired by both architectural and natural landscapes - suggesting spaces in flux and fleeting moments of time. While focusing strongly on the physicality of the mark, she is simultaneously interested in ephemeral and impalpable.
My studio space is the most quiet and the most dynamic place at the same time. It is the only place I can freely move around, test, contemplate and feel productive even if I am just starring at the work - which happens a lot. I enjoy slowly shifting the works around and contemplating them through different configurations. The work takes time to get refined and before it can claim itself
What inspires you?
I am interested in and inspired by the relationships and tensions between opossites, the peripheral visions of the subtle transitions and fleeting moments between both: sublime and toxic, architectural and natural, contemplative and interrupted, bold and soft...Vast landscapes, horizon lines, urban and domestic environments are common sources.
Describe your creative process.
My working processes operate between rational and intuitive, careful calculations and open ended discoveries. When working, my mind exists between memory and anticipation. I have an established methodologies for each stage works go through, from
