What inspires you?
I draw inspiration from experiencing the present moment, interacting with people and exploring new places. There's an energy that comes from living fully in the moment, fueling my creativity. I strive to imbue my work with the same sense of immediacy and aliveness found in the present.
Describe your creative process.
My creative process is rojak, meaning "messy" or "mixed" in Malay. I gather inspiration from my surroundings, art, and culture, and let my ideas flow freely, exploring different possibilities without judgment. This involves experimentation, trial and error, and taking risks. Eventually, the pieces start to come together, and I refine and polish my work until I'm satisfied. This approach leads to work that is both messy and tasty – a true reflection of my creative process.
What are 3 words that best describe your work?
Spritual | Emotive | Thought-provoking
Who are some artists that have influenced your work?
My work is influenced by Dr. Masaru Emoto, Banksy, and Stanley Kubrick, among others. Dr. Emoto's scientific approach to the study of water crystals and their response to human intention has inspired my spiritual and emotive approach to my work. Banksy's use of art to address social issues and political commentary has also influenced my own socially conscious approach. Lastly, Kubrick's mastery of storytelling and visual language has impacted the way I approach framing and composition in my photography.
What is the most important tool when creating your work?
Mind, soul, camera, tripod.
What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
"Learn and forget" is powerful advice for artists. Keep learning and growing, while letting go of past mistakes and negative emotions. Stay curious, humble, and resilient to stay inspired and motivated in your work.
Where do you go for inspiration?
Nature, meditation, and creative community.
