Job Tibay is a Filipino-American artist who works on Saguran (Raffia) fabric. Living thousands of miles away from the Philippines inspired him to find a substrate that would allow him to stay connected to his roots. Instead of the traditional canvas, he decided to work on saguran, which is handwoven from the young leaf sheaths of the buri palm (a 100% eco-friendly material) by artisan weavers from the Philippines. This allows him to celebrate his heritage while continuing to explore new grounds and horizons without ever losing touch with the place he first called home.
Job completed his masters in Fine & Decorative Arts and Design at Sotheby’s Institute of Art in New York City, and currently lives with his wife Melissa in Union City, New Jersey.
