John Duckworth's art imparts a calming, meditative and introspective quality intended to elicit a deeper consideration of ourselves and the world around us. Duckworth says, “we are nature, it’s not something separate and outside of us, it’s this fundamental interconnectedness that I am interested in conveying.” He is most well known for his quietly abstract landscape photography of the Southeast coast, wherein the images read as luminous, meditative color field paintings.
Duckworth received the Laura M. Bragg Award from the College of Charleston. He has taken part in over 50 shows, including solo exhibitions in Miami (Art Basel), New York, London, Atlanta, Charleston, Birmingham, Orlando and Asheville - in addition to group shows at the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art in Charleston SC, and multiple participatory installations with artist Kevin Harrison. Duckworth frequently collaborates with musicians - including the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Grammy and Emmy award winning musician Duncan Sheik, and Grammy award winning musician Quentin Baxter. He was designated one of the 50 Most Progressive persons in Charleston SC, was a Visiting Artist on Spring Island, GA in 2015, and his film work has been included in multiple film festivals. Duckworth currently lives in a 1920 farmhouse on Johns Island SC with his son Baze, and works in a converted barn-building on-site.
