My training was in Philosophy and art only found me in my later life. I prefer to engage with larger canvases -they give one so much freedom. My painting style tends to fall into two main camps. On the one hand, a nebular, ethereal body of work, which expresses a certain state of almost prayerful devotion. The other is a more design oriented style. I have work in collections all around the world and have been featured in curated collections by Saatchi.
What inspires you?
How the aesthetic is sacred, not something superfluous or merely decorative but life-giving.
Describe your creative process.
Many of paintings appear to me in dreams. I often see them whole and rush out of bed to get the main outline complete before I forget. I then work into the layers, sometimes with music, sometimes in complete silence. My studio has a sea glimpse and that little sliver of ocean feeds life into my creative process every day.
What are 3 words that best describe your work?
Sacred, numinous, celebratory
Who are some artists that have influenced your work?
Zao Wou-Ki, Turner, Maurice Sapiro
What is the most important tool when creating your work?
My skyflow brush
What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
Follow your bliss - it will lead you to a place of peace and deep satisfaction.
Where do you go for inspiration?
That's easy - I moved to be by the ocean and I go to commune with the sea nearly every day.
