I have been a professional artist for over 30 years who still lives in my hometown, the village of Manlius, New York, United States of America.
I was educated as a painter, but recently my direction has changed into creating beautiful color bursting 3-D wood sculptures. I am blessed to have a supporting husband and two beautiful daughters who allow me the time to do what I was made to do. God gave me this gift of working with my hands and a creative mind that I intend to use to the best of my ability. One of my goals is to create a huge outdoor public metal sculpture where people can walk around and through the colorful curls and swirls. Ask yourself, “What would the world be like without art?” Hopefully we will never know. Thank you for looking at my sculptures and I hope it has brought a smile to your face. Thank you for supporting the arts.
“I am a passionate artist who loves to create; it is in every fiber of my being. I feel it's my gift from God and I intend on using it to the fullest."
What inspires you?
My inner soul inspires me. There is something inside me that gets me up every morning excited to create. I get butterflies in my stomach when I know I'll have the time to work in my studio, alone and only with my inner thoughts to keep me company.
Describe your creative process.
I hand curl each wooden spiral one by one that you see in my sculptures. I then attach each twist, curl, and spiral piece by piece until I feel the sculpture is full of movement, texture, energy, and bursting with color.
What are 3 words that best describe your work?
Energetic, Cheerful, Distinctive, Dynamic, Contemporary, Lively, Swirling, Organic, Texture, Original
Who are some artists that have influenced your work?
These wood sculptures were inspired by the internationally known Irish Master Wood Carver Glenn Lucas. While watching him carve a bowl on his lathe I saw these long beautiful wood spiral shavings fall to the floor. They were "LOST now and discarded. I "FOUND" them and gave them the purpose of being part of something beautiful. From being "LOST to being "FOUND" .
What is the most important tool when creating your work?
The most important tools in creating these sculptures are my hands.
What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
Don't wait to be inspired to do art, just do it anyway.
Where do you go for inspiration?
My inspirations are all around me. Sometimes I see a beautiful color combination on a stranger's jacket or shirt so I ask them if I can take a close-up picture of their clothes so I don't forget the colors. I see color combinations in nature. I play around with color combinations until something is pleasing to my eye..
