I'm an italian architect and photographer. The journey of my life had a big change around 10 years ago, when I decided to move to China for working reasons. Since then, my passion for photography exploded, due also to the infinite possibilities and scenarios that asian cities are able to offer.
When I moved to Hong Kong I started exploring this city through my lenses: my architecture background has for sure a lot of influence on my photography and I like to dig out the soul of this city and its archetypal elements with the use of bold colors and double exposure: nightscapes, cityscapes, architecture and more...in a neverending process of learning, improving and experimenting towards my vision of this crazy, yet breathtaking city.
What inspires you?
I let myself being inspired by the city and the flow of events that surround me: the place in which I live it's an infinite source of inspiration. However, it's inevitable that with the years the vision evolves and transforms, so I’m quite sure the inspiration and work I will produce 10 years later will be totally different from what I’m doing now
Describe your creative process.
I mainly shoot my photos with the multiple exposure technique: it’s a way to overlap two or more photos together with different settings directly on my camera. Sometimes the results are unpredictable and it’s in these occasions that often the magic happens. Sure, the modern softwares allow you to achieve the same (or even more accurate) results, but one of the beauty of this technique (at least in my opinion) is to experiment with it directly in camera, otherwise that’s not anymore what we call photography, but graphic.
What are 3 words that best describe your work?
Colors, reflections, atmosphere
Who are some artists that have influenced your work?
Apart from some famous photographer, two of the artists I admire the most are Francis Bacon and Giorgio De Chirico: even though they were painters and not photographers, they have a huge influence on my artistic vision
What is the most important tool when creating your work?
My shots are all taken with a digital camera and I use different lenses depending on the situations
Where do you go for inspiration?
Hong Kong, the city in which I live, offers a great variety of scenarios to express your creativity as photographer, so the environment around me is definitely my main source of inspiration
