Hometown: Berlin

A border crosser between photography, painting and printmaking, Sven creates mixed media art out of the ordinary. Enthusiastic about Rauschenberg & Co early on, he produces art since teenage years. His affinity for the printmaking has paved his way to enter the professional art world with his multi award winning first oversized art book. Devoting his time to pure photography while traveling and the subsequent work in the studio when it comes to putting extra layers of color or graphic components on his photos. Sven collaborates with art galleries, art consultants, architects, fashion and interior designer worldwide to bring art projects to life. The range of used materials include acrylic, resin, aluminium, copper, wood, canvas, lambda and dibond. Sven is originally from Berlin and is based in South East Asia since 10 years.

Warm greetings from my studio. My name is Sven Pfrommer and I am a visual artist based between Berlin and Singapore.
What inspires you?
My main source of inspiration, I would say, is my traveling, exploring different cultures and visual languages. I have been also inspired by different artists.
Describe your creative process.
I tend to work on a series at a time, given by a theme or source of inspiration. Photography, either created in the studio or brought home from a journey, is usually my starting point, before I then continue to work on the outcome in the studio, adding extra layers of watercolor, spray paint or acrylic, or by using alternative processing techniques in my lab.
Who are some artists that have influenced your work?
As an art student, I came across the work of László Moholy-Nagy and Man Ray and was inspired by the experimental approach of making photograms in the darkroom. So before ever touching a computer, I experimented in the lab to create photograms and manipulate films. I do also admire the works of Robert Rauschenberg, Antoni Tàpies, Anselm Kiefer and photographers like Peter Beard, Saul Leiter, Daido Moryama, to name a few.
Where do you go for inspiration?
One important reason for me to practice art, is because it gives me the freedom to create the aesthetics, I have in my mind. That strong desire to bring something on paper which exists only as a fragment or cloud in my brain.
