Artist statement
Arché (ἀρχή in ancient Greek), or "the beginning", for the ancient Greeks is the primigenial force that dominates the world, from which everything comes, and to which everything will return.
Many ancient Greek philosophers tried to establish what the origin of the world was. The best known are the philosophers of the school of Miletus: Thales, for whom the origin corresponds to water, Anaximander, who identifies the origin with the apeiron (ἄπειρον, i.e. infinity), Anaximenes, who recognizes the origin in the air, and Heraclitus, who sees the origin of everything in fire and movement.
