Encaustic, oil pastel on cradled wood panel.
I was 5 years old when I developed a fear of birds. my grandmothers parakeet used to land on my head, flap it's wings and get tangled in my hair. the adults laughed, I was terrified.
Birds end up in at least half of all of my work. they are often under most of what I paint, sometimes covered over with other layers, sometimes not. as often happens in my encaustic work, creatures arise out of nowhere, wanting to be seen. this little one was just perched, waiting to be found.
