And the thing shines
It appears to exist apart from all else
Suddenly it has a past history
It has causes and interactions
It has reasons and futures
A density
A beauty
An aliveness
The thing is alive when I focus on it
My focus is its aliveness
And yet the focus cannot be mine
Because it surprises me
Suddenly it appears
The focus is eternal
As is its endless creation of aliveness
