Artist statement
I was asked to create my vision of Ikebana for a Sushi restaurant.
Gossamer thin Japanese handmade Washi paper is such a treat to work with! It's willingness to perform in so many unique and visually weightless manners that would be impossible to achieve without.
I mix my colors with color mixing techniques first developed centuries ago by Japanese Monks to portray the "blush" of their highly venerated Cherry blossoms.
The entire canvas is coated with clear acrylics to protect from harmful UVs.
