Artist statement
True silence is not an absence or lack but rather a dynamic power. There is a movement of will or energy within profound silence, which is why this painting is almost like travelling rapidly and looking out of the window so that the landscape appears only in a blur, whilst being still (for example on a train journey). Yet, there is a tranquil silence in the work as well as this motion and this was born out of completing it in a meditative and deeply grateful state of mind.
