Artist statement
The Lovers is an original ceramic sculpture created with two individual components. It was created from the reject clay of someone's else intent to make pottery on the wheel. These two lumps of clay were supposed to be cups. I saw them on the side of the table and their shapes called me in. They were side by side and it was already telling a story. They were meant to stay together.
What I love about these two pieces is, their mobility and by this, while changing their positions vis-a-vis of each other , they tell a different story. The pull and tug of Lovers, sometimes stuck at the hips and sometimes turning their backs on each other.
I glazed them in two different colors to represent the Anima and Animus us beings have - the bit of feminine and masculine energy inside of us.
