Artist statement
This work transcends cultures and languages, with a combination of luxury and heritage, and novelty. Energetic and colorful, these works are complex in references to Chinese traditional crafts and history as well as to the art world itself. She transforms traditional forms into contemporary ones to be inherently Chinese, inherently Asian. This beautifully rich mixture of shapes respects the past in a playful serenity. The inspiration and materials of the work come from the ancient Dong traditional hand-woven cloth-bright cloth. It is a homage to Dong females and their hard work. It looks soft, but in fact, it is hard and it almost has a metallic texture. It is the way the artist perceived the spirit of these women: soft on the outside and hard inside.
