About the art
Artist statement
The work “cosmic energy IV” consists of exactly 1,575 hand-crafted cubes of larch wood, which are precisely arranged to form a multi-layered, three-dimensional relief.
Through natural weathering processes, the pieces of wood have developed different shades of color - from warm, natural nuances to darker, almost charred shades. This organic color variation lends the work a lively depth and is reminiscent of the traces of time that shape and change matter.
The composition unfolds a flowing dynamic: while the lighter wood elements are reminiscent of untouched original energy, the darker sections look like traces of cosmic transformation. The tripartite division of the work reinforces this impression, as if energetic forces were expanding across different dimensions.
The play of light and shadow reinforces the vibrant liveliness of the work. Depending on the perspective and lighting, the visual effect changes so that the relief almost seems to be in motion. The three-dimensional nature invites the viewer to explore the textures up close and to grasp the materiality of the wood with its natural traces of time.
“cosmic energy IV” combines natural processes with mathematical precision and symbolizes the interplay of order and change, of structure and transience. It invites us to reflect on the incessant transformation of matter - from the smallest cell to the largest galaxy.
