Artist statement
human nails XI consists of many individual wire pins that are connected to each other by targeted welding points and thus combine to form an abstract, human shape.
Similar to the “human flow” sculpture series, Manfred Hellweger also creates a whole from many individual parts.
Each nail represents a thought, an emotion, or a feeling in a person's life.
A special eye-catcher is created by using an antique wagon drawbar as a base. The work of art appears archaic and modern at the same time and brings a powerful, emotional presence into every room.
The steel sculpture was treated with several layers of matt acrylic varnish to avoid oxidation. The surface of the antique wagon drawbar and the base plate made of corten steel are natural.
