Artist statement
The sculpture "samsara VI" was created from an old, local chestnut tree with rare and exceptionally strong burl growth. This growth habit creates a very vibrant and unique grain in the wood.
In the sculpture series “samsara”, Manfred deals with the perpetual cycle of being, the cycle of becoming and passing away and the cycle of rebirth in Indian religions. The artist uses old, partly dead tree trunks and found objects to create something new.
The surface of the sculpture is finely sanded in the upper area and oiled with a glazed white finish.
The rest of this special trunk is completely natural.
The base is a waxed steel plate with the dimensions: 56 x 49.5 x 1 cm
