About the art
Artist statement
This painting is built almost like a sculpture. The color is applied with knife to create depth and texture to the surface. - The piece is one in a series of works called "Camino de la huerta de Juan Pobre" which means the way to Juan Pobre’s garden. A small dirt road is winding through the landscape where you can experience the light and shadows of nature in all it’s forms. - Pia Andersen intends to bring this light and these structures alive in her painting as well as bringing you - the spectator - the peace and quiet of nature to give you a small pause in a busy world. - This specific work brings you the colors of an autumn evening.
Pia Andersen works with knife and spatula because it gives her other possibilities in how to construct the painting. The surface is not flat, but full of tiny peaks where color is shining through from behind and where light is playing with the shadows.
