Rue de la Paix V

"Place de la paix V", like all my collages, is made with posters found on the walls of Lyon. It is part of a small series that evokes the clouds of birds in perpetual movement in the sky, these murmurations of starlings that form and deform into waves in an elegant ballet.
The letters cut out individually, like so many birds creating together this cloud, are the components of words and ephemeral sentences that have been lost, emptied of their meaning and that in a fluid movement metamorphose into other figures and other words at the whim of the eye.
My approach consists in decomposing and recomposing forms and spaces, rhythms and relationships in a new visual language.

The fact that I am a space-time synesthete undoubtedly influences my work (a few extra synaptic connections between certain regions of my brain allow me to experience time as a spatial construction). Typography, spatio-temporal number sequences, words that read backwards, letters that "fly" and follow their own logic, etc. are part of my internal functioning, and of the vision of the world around me.

As I give the name of a street, a place or a district of Lyon to each of my collages, the "Place de la Paix" imposed itself to me as a representation of these soothing murmurations.
