ABOUT THE SERIES:
Viet Ha Tran's photographic series "Colors of the Rain" captures the romantic beauty of the rainy season in Sa Pa, Vietnam. Sa Pa is one of the most popular tourist location of the country and is located in the extreme north of Vietnam, at an altitude of 1,500 meters, near the border with China. In Sa Pa, there is a subtropical climate, with mild winters and cool summers. Generally the air is humid, the sun does not shine often, and mists and fogs can form. The heavy rains during the monsoon season (May - September) enhance the region’s natural beauty, transforming rice terraces into vibrant green fields. The mist rolling through the valleys adds to Sa Pa's ethereal charm.
The artist took the trip to Sa Pa during the rainy days of August. Each image in the series reflects the rain outside the window or landscape after the rainfall, transforming the landscape into a vivid tableau of hues through the artist's imagination.
The series uses strong colors as normally seen in the photographic works of Viet Ha Tran. The way the rain alters the landscape can be seen as a symbol of nature’s constant change, reflecting cycles of renewal and growth that are central to the ecological and cultural rhythms of Vietnam. Through her lens and colorful imagination, Tran invites viewers to visit her native country during the rainy season and experience the quiet, introspective moments it brings, while highlighting the serene beauty that the monsoon season can offer.
