This time, the KAWS:HOLIDAY project took off and made its way to outer space today. KAWS:HOLIDAY first kicked off in 2018 and has since landed around asia in the cities of Seoul, Taipei, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Japan. In this cosmic edition, audiences from around the world can escape their daily lives with KAWS's famous COMPANION as he embarks on a journey beyond our atmosphere.

The COMPANION dons an astronaut suit and takes a sounding balloon 41.5 kilometers up into the Stratosphere. At lightning speed, COMPANION's galactic adventure culminates in a 2-hour, zero-gravity walk around the desolate space before returning to Earth. The entire exploration lasted for 8 hours from its lift-off to landing. It was recorded with a 360-degree panoramic video camera, which captured COMPANION's historical moment and commemorating his 20th year in existence. These astronaut COMPANIONS will be available on sale from tomorrow onwards!

KAWS is constantly challenging the definition of a sculpture and its potential. He noted that as "many projects have been cancelled this year. I wanted to create one that could be experienced safely from home. Because this year marks 20 years since I created COMPANION, I tried to find a way around all the restrictions and do something special. I felt so confined the past few months that creating a project like this has really given me a chance to escape.”
